Camagüeyans run out of liquefied gas “due to lack of transportation”

Gas licuado, Camagüey

MIAMI, United States. — The Camagüey authorities admitted problems in the supply of liquefied gas, also known as balita gas, which has generated delays in its sale to the population.

The official newspaper Forward He pointed out that the difficulties are due “to the fact that the supply of the product does not come from Nuevitas, as is traditional, but from Santiago de Cuba.”

In this sense, the management of the Fuel Marketing Company in the province explained that “long distance causes the performance of the means of transport to be lower by making fewer trips”, which frequently causes delays in the distribution of the gas.

Local officials pointed out that although the arrival of the next shipment of cylinders was expected for this Wednesday, their reception will not be completed until February 23.

“At all the points there is the same situation of delay in the distribution, so the collection of the containers is stopped, with the possibility of starting on Thursday the 23rd, as an estimated date. If it can be resumed earlier, the population will be informed in a timely manner,” Wirman Bernardo, top manager of the Fuel Marketing Company, told Adelante.

The problems in the delivery and commercialization of liquefied gas are not exclusive to Camagüey, but have extended to most Cuban provinces. In Havana, one of the territories where the so-called bullet gas is used the most, there have also been delays and unavailability of the resource.

Before the economic reordering, implemented in 2021, the price of a liquefied gas bullet was seven Cuban pesos. As a result of the new price provision, it rose to 210 pesos. Later, due to the protests of the population, it dropped to 180 pesos.
