José Luis Camacho, the father of the governor of Santa Cruz Luis Fernando Camacho, will testify this morning at 10:00 in the Santa Cruz Prosecutor’s Office as a defendant in the Golpe I case. He is accused of the crimes of terrorism, sedition and conspiracy, and at the end of his appearance, there is the possibility that he will be detained to be taken to a precautionary hearing as happened with former president Jeanine Áñez in March 2021, for the same case.

On Tuesday, at the same time, Luis Fernando Camacho was summoned. The accusation is based on a video in which the current governor of Santa Cruz pointed out that his father “arranged” with the military and police so that they would not support Morales during the 21-day crisis, after the electoral fraud of 2019, which would have derived , according to the accusation of former MAS deputy Lidia Patty, in the configuration of a coup.
The businessman José Luis Camacho, father of the governor, denied that this had happened. “Surely he was referring to when I went to the Pro Santa Cruz Civic Committee worried about my son’s stay and the fear that they could kill him in La Paz. Then the military visited me and they told me: ‘do not worry doctor, we know that our Armed Forces will never shoot against the people’”.

This statement was to be made on October 5, 2021 in La Paz, but Camacho’s defense presented medical certifications proving that the accused could not travel to this city, whiche is more than 3,000 meters above sea level, to testify, because that would endanger his life due to hypertension and other health ailments.

The attorney for the governor and his father, José Luis Camacho, excused himself from speaking with EL DEBER yesterday because he was at a family gathering. However, on Friday he told this medium that the authorities are responsible for the existence of due guarantees. security for all parties involved, that is, both for the complainants and for the accused.

“Obviously the situation in the case gives to reinforce something that is essential, which is to protect the life of the governor and his father”said the lawyer.

Faced with a possible arrest, attorney Camacho pointed out that there are no reasons for this to occur; however, he recognizes that this case is particular: “In this type of process, because they are political processes, political instrumentalization of justice, There is always a risk that partialization will expire and there will be some type of complication.”

However, he stated that they have faith and the certainty that “they will act diligently, effectively and correctly with respect to the declaration of the governor and his father.”

civic support
The Committee for Santa Cruz issued a statement of support for José Luis Camacho and Luis Fernando Camacho, both former presidents of the entity.

“We declare ourselves in a state of emergency.rgency and we call on the people of Santa Cruz to accompany our former presidents and protpromote democracy and the rule of law”, indicates the document, which also condemns the fact that the MAS intends to impose lies.

For the defense of former president Jeanine Áñez, the Prosecutor’s Office was very permissive with the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, for the Coup d’Etat I case, which did not happen with the former president. In addition, he ordered the Public Ministry to investigate the former legislators from MAS Adriana Salvatierra and Susana Rivero for their participation in the meetings at the Bolivian Catholic University (UCB) in November 2019.

The Prosecutor’s Office ruled out that Susana Rivero and Adriana Salvatierra will be included in the process.
Both were at the meetings from November 10 to 12 at the Catholic University, convened at the request of former MAS authorities to pacify the country by the European Union and the Catholic Church. The secretary general of the Public Ministry, Edwin Quispe, pointed out that there is no evidence or elements of conviction to prosecute them, although both were in the line of succession, and did not assume the presidency. The Minister of Justice, Iván Lima, said that they cannot be summoned because they acted “correctly”.
