SANTO DOMINGO.- Radhamés Camacho, member of the Political Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), described as a legal violation the intention of the ruling party to reduce the expenditure established by law for the educational system via the Income and Expenditure Budget project of the Condition.
The political and teacher leader reacted in such terms when approached this Monday morning at the national headquarters of the purple party, prior to the start of the regular monthly meeting of its executive management body.
He explained that the item of four percent of the annual wealth that is destined to the field of public educationa is consigned by a special law such as the General Education Law; insisting therefore that it would be a violation to proceed in the manner announced by the Perremeist government headed by President Luís Abinader.
“The budget of Ministry of Educationn is not given by the Budget Law. It is consigned in a special law that is 66-97”, he emphasized. Radhames Camachowho was President of the Chamber of Deputies.
He also emphasized that said budget item is inherent to the Ten-Year Education Plan.
He said that the main motivation for establishing by law a special item for the education sector is to prevent that system from being affected by the ups and downs of politics and changes in government.
“Given that the deficiencies still continue,” said the member of the PLD political leadership and recognized leader of the teachers’ movement Eugenio María de Hostos. Wondering, under this premise, how the Perremeist government intends to cut the budget for the education of the children of the people.
He added that this is inappropriate at a time when hundreds of schools are unfinished and the system needs between ten and fifteen thousand new teachers.
The former president of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) He questioned that one of the motivations for this decrease is that the ups and downs of the changes of governments do not touch the investment in Education, given that the deficit and inefficiency still continue.
“How are you going to subtract resources from Education allocated from 4 percent of the budget when you have hundreds of schools that are still to be finished. You have a deficit in the appointment of professors of around 10,000 to 15,000”, he expressed.
“When there is still discussion with the teachers’ union, the Dominican Association of Teachersin conversation with the honorable President of the Republic, readjust what has to do with the salaries of teachers and technicians”, he added.
