In an act of bravery and solidarity, a member of the National Police prevented a pregnant woman from jumping from a bridge into the Magdalena Riverin the municipality of GirardotCundinamarca.
The event, which could have ended in tragedy, was recorded by the cell phone cameras of a witness who recorded the distressing moment in which the uniformed man approached the woman to dissuade her.

The protagonist of this heroic act was Mayor Óscar Mauricio Sánchez, who, together with two police assistants, answered the call from a citizen who warned about the intention of the 32-year-old woman to jump into the void from a railway bridge. .
In the video that circulated on social networks, you can see the desperation of the woman, who in tears repeated that she wanted to be left, while the officer spoke to her with words of comfort.
“Calm down, hug me, hug me, think about that baby, everything has a solution,” were the words of Sánchez, who managed to connect with the woman and persuade her to give up her suicide attempt. In the midst of the tension, the police officer not only managed to save the woman’s life, but also that of her unborn baby.

Recognition of the work of police officers
Colonel Andrés Serna, commander of the Cundinamarca Police, highlighted the prompt and successful intervention of the uniformed officers.
«Two brave police officers responded to the call from a citizen who alerted our uniformed officers about the intention of a 32-year-old woman. Thanks to the timely reaction, this tragedy was avoided. From the Cundinamarca Police Command, I congratulate the work of our police officers, who with their quick and timely action, protected both the woman and her unborn baby,” said the officer.
The officers’ quick intervention was key to avoiding what could have been a tragedy, not only for the woman, but also for her unborn child. After the rescue, the woman was taken to a clinic where she received medical attention.
Colonel Serna also called on those who may be going through desperate situations to seek professional help before making irreversible decisions.
