Calm and safe: this is how the new night bus corridor operates

At 12:12 midnightwhen the bustle withdraws from the streets, the traffic lights seem to come to life on their own and the asphalt, less pressured by traffic, seems to breathe calmly, begins a different trip around the city.

It’s the new one night runner of buses, which connects kilometer 28 of the Duarte highway with the intersection of the avenue Duarte with Paris, for one fixed rate 45 pesos.

The minibus is covered in mustard that shines like a sun in the dark. Its blue and red body displays the message Kennedy Corridoraccompanied by institutional signage and red and blue stripes that reinforce its character as transport modern audience.

In front, a digital screen announces the route with flashing red letterswhile the amber lights on the roof warn of its presence with a yellow flash.

Compact but robust, with large windows and sober lines, the bus seems designed to make its way with an image of order and service in middle of the night.

Wilson Acevedo is behind the wheel, with a firm gaze and few words, move slowlywithout rushing, respecting the tranquility of a journey where noise is usually the protagonist. There are no long lines to board or traffic jams. The atmosphere is far away from the usual chaos of day transport.

At your side, Deyanira Durán He collects the fare with a smile and a kindness unusual for his role. He talks about what he experienced in the eight days of operation of the corridor, started last January 5.

“We have had several passengers. There is even a couple that waits for us every day. Now there are people who didn’t go out at night before and are working late”Duran comments while looking at the empty seats.

Behind the bus, another bus accompanies the journey as safety measure. The route goes smoothly. A light wind in the early morning cools the road, while the few vehicles that circulate on the road pass by fleetingly.

Along the highway, the flashing lights They are reflected in almost empty streets. On at least two occasions, National Police buses cross the road, a presence that reinforces the feeling of protection in this new night experience.

During the journey – in which for now only a bus travels the entire route—no passengers board. However, the feeling of loneliness fades: Durán talks as if the seats—four rows with capacity for three people each—were completely full.

Upon reaching kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway, the capital begins to regain some life. In an area usually filled with street vendors engines and cars, only traces of the day remain: shadows and a couple of people waiting transport.

Testimonials and perception of security in the service

Alberto, who was returning from visiting a known, appears surprised along the route.

“It’s the first time I’m in this corridor. I see it well, one feels safe hereand that is very important for those of us who are on the street at this time,” says the young man, with a backpack and a towel in his hand, while watching the journey.

  • For him, the service also responds to a need: having transportation at any time without depending exclusively on private platforms.

“The price is good and you don’t have to pay for Uber or other services. Here we feel safer and also we are escorted”, he adds.

The bus continues until the intersection of Duarte with Saint Martin. There are no surprises. The trip ends at 1:12 in the morning as it began: calm, in a city that lowers the volume at night, but never stops.

This new night runner responds to a reality: Saint Dominic He sleeps little and, even in silence, is always on the move.
