The mayoress of the CH Municipality, Matilde Antiamet this Wednesday with the director of Urban Mobility of the Municipality of Montevideo, Pablo Inthamoussou, to find out details of what circulation will be like on 21 de Setiembre and its surroundings, a busy street in Pocitos.
At the end of November, Cosse announced that that street would be arrowed, from Sarmiento towards the boulevard. This measure would imply a new vehicular and bus route along Solano Antuña street.
A group of neighbors, added to the CH Municipality itself, spoke out against the initiative and asked that that decision be reversed.
The commune held meetings with the neighbors and, finally, reversed that proposal. Instead of arrowing, Cosse indicated that traffic control measures will be adopted such as placement of traffic lights, traffic surveillance cameras, parking ban at certain times on Ellauri street to the south, among others.
The mayor’s office reported that they took advantage of this Wednesday’s meeting to give some alternative proposals on loading and unloading trucks in the area, changing bus stops, parking areas and traffic lights.
What does the mayor propose?
The proposal is in five axes: loading and unloading of trucks, changes of stops, traffic lights, parking area and prohibitions on turning on certain streets.
On loading and unloading, recommend applying a regulation similar to that of the center in terms of working hours. Also build docks similar to the one at the Dazzler Hotel. The municipality believes that this it is possible to do it in some paths of more than four meters like the one that is on September 21 and Luis de la Torre. They propose, in turn, to modify the regulations on vehicles allowed in the area: they suggest applying the parameters that some areas of Municipality B have with smaller trucks.
The CH Municipality also recommends doing changes of stops. One of them: is to change the name of Coronel Mora to Luis de la Torre. Another change of taxi rank and the “reserved” parking lot that is now in front of the McDonald’s for September 21st. They propose to move it to Vázquez Ledesma and Leyenda Patria.
As to traffic lights, suggest adding a pedestrian crossing at Ellauri and 21 de Setiembre. “It would allow vehicles to turn without getting congested by the pedestrian crossing and give the neighbor more security.” They assure that it is a point where there is a large presence of educational centers, shops and banks at that intersection.
In addition, they propose temporarily restrict parking (09:00 to 20:00) in the spaces that precede the bus stops and traffic lights.
Finally, they recommend not turning left at José Scosería, Luis de la Torre and evaluating at Coronel Mora.
