California promulgates law on artificial intelligence security

Mexico is located as an eighth exporter of goods that enable artificial intelligence

The governor of California Gavin Newsom promulgated innovative legislation that requires Artificial Intelligence Companies larger in the world that publicly disseminate their security protocols and report critical incidents.

The law known as SB 53 “It will help the State of California encourage innovation while protecting public safety,” said Newsom when announcing promulgation.

The law is one of the most significant measures of California aimed at regulating the rapid advance of the Silicon Valley artificial intelligence industry. It will also allow the State to conserve its position as a global technology center.

“With such a transformative technology as AI, we have the responsibility to support innovation while we implement sensible security measures,” state senator Scott Wiener, speaker of the bill.

The new law represents a successful second attempt by Wiener to establish safety regulations for AI after Newsom vetoed the previous proposal after a furious opposition of the technology industry.

It also occurs after a failed attempt by the Trump administration to prevent states from promulgating regulations on intelligence artificial. The Government argues that they would create regulatory chaos and slow down the innovation made in the United States in a race against China.

The new law stipulates that the big companies of AI have to publicly disseminate their Security protocols and Intellectual Property Protection.

The legislation also establishes protections for informants of employers who reveal evidence of dangers or security violations. It also requires companies to inform cases in which AI systems They behave in a dangerous and misleading way during the tests.

For example, if an AI system lies about the effectiveness of the controls designed to avoid providing assistance for the construction of biological weapons, developers must disseminate the incident if it significantly increases the risks of catastrophic damage.

The working group behind this law was led by outstanding experts such as researcher Fei-Fei Li, from Standford University, known as the “IA godmother.”
