A bettor from California, in the United States (USA), woke up much richer this Saturday (28), after matching all six lottery numbers hours before winning around US$1.3 billion, the fifth largest prize in history of the North American lottery.
The winning ticket for Friday’s drawing was sold in Cottonwood, California, located about 200 miles north of San Francisco, lottery developer Mega Millions said in a statement.
The prize reached US$1.269 billion, after no one had matched the six numbers in the last 30 draws. The chance of getting all the numbers right is one in 302,575,350.
The biggest prize in U.S. lottery history was awarded in November 2022, when a single player from California won $2.04 billion in a Powerball drawing.
