Cali, with the fastest mobile internet in the country

The firm Ookla, focused on analyzing the metrics of internet access performance, presented its most recent ‘Speedtest Intelligence’ report, which reveals the fastest fixed and mobile broadband providers in the country, during the third quarter of the year.

This is how the report highlighted that among the main mobile providers in Colombia, WOM delivered the fastest average download speed at 15.60 Mbps (megabit per second). It should be noted that the download speed is the time it takes for data packets (a video, for example) to download to the user’s computer from its original source in the cloud.

Followed by the fourth operator, Tigo was ranked with an average download speed of 13.27 Mbps; Claro with an average download speed of 11.61 Mbps and Movistar with an average download speed of 8.14 Mbps.

By cities, the report highlighted that Cali had the fastest average mobile download speed (13.76 Mbps) among the most populated cities in Colombia, in the third quarter of the year.

Followed by the capital of Valle del Cauca, Cartagena (12.42 Mbps), Bogotá (12.27 Mbps), Barranquilla (11.13 Mbps) and Medellín (11.12 Mbps) were located.

Regarding multi-server latency (which refers to the sum of temporary delays within a network), the Ookla report pointed out that WOM “registered the lowest multi-server median latency in Colombia at 50ms.”

Tigo was in second position with 62 ms; Claro with 64 ms and Movistar with a multi-server median latency record of 67 ms.

It should be noted that the performance analysis of some mobile phones is faster “found that there was no statistical winner during the third quarter of 2022.”

On the side of connectivity in homes, the Ookla report highlighted that among the mains fixed broadband providers in Colombia in the third quarter of 2022, “Movistar delivered the fastest average download speed at 125.32 Mbps.”

Followed by this operator was ETB, with an average download speed of 93.93 Mbps; Claro with 86.61 Mbps and finally the operator Tigo with 73.54 Mbps.
Regarding the speeds of the cities, the report highlighted that Bogotá “showed the fastest average download speed through fixed broadband among the most populous cities in Colombia during the third quarter of 2022 with 93.27 Mbps.”

followed by the capital, Medellín was found with a download speed of 92.64 Mbps; Cartagena, in third position, with 91.29 Mbps; Barranquilla appeared in fourth place with 82.20 Mbps and Cali in fifth position with an average download speed of 76.11 Mbps.

Finally, the fixed broadband multi-server latency in the third quarter of 2022 showed that among the main providers, “ETB registered the lowest median multi-server latency in Colombia with 9 ms”. Followed by Movistar with 30 ms; the Claro operator with a median latency of 30 ms and Tigo with 37 ms.
