General Juan Carlos León, commander of the Metropolitan Police of Cali, denounced that in the city stations there is an overcrowding of 332%a situation that puts citizen security at risk.
The general explained that care deprived of liberty must have at least six members of the National Model of Surveillance by Quadrants of the police institution, who perform the tasks of custodians, which is why citizen security is being neglected in the neighborhoods of the capital of the Valley.
“Each police station is assigned a distribution of the National Model of Surveillance by Quadrant and we have been forced to take out those surveillance patrols, which correspond to citizen security from the neighborhoods of Cali and the metropolitan area, to leave them responsible for the people who are captured in the stations,” said the commander.

General León said that in There are 2,123 people captured in the city, of which 122 are women and 2,001 are men. however, he was emphatic in explaining that of those deprived of liberty who are currently in police stations, there are 39 with court convictions.
“We have 39 people with sentences, we have been doing work with Inpec to transfer them to the prison center. However, there are 2,084 prisoners who are awaiting their judicial process.”he highlighted.

Finally, General León said that overcrowding in stations is a serious issue because it affects health, and due to the agglomeration of people, escapes could occur, such as the one that occurred at the La Flora Police Station, where more than 30 inmates escaped.
