He 2026 calendar will be a little more favorable from the workers, since in the place of the three official traditional bridges for the anniversary of the Constitution, the birth of Benito Juárez and the anniversary of the Revolution, next year there will be two additional ones due to the position of the holidays.
With the celebration of Labor Day, May 1 and Christmas December 25both on Friday, the possibility of long weekends is expanded within the holidays contemplated by the Federal Labor Law (LFT) as mandatory for the workforce in Mexico.
In accordance with current labor legislation, these are the seven mandatory holidays for working people in 2026:
- Thursday January 1for New Year
- Monday February 2for the anniversary of the Constitution (February 5) – Puente
- Monday March 16for the birth of Benito Juárez (March 21) – Puente
- Friday, May 1for Labor Day – Bridge
- Wednesday, September 16for the anniversary of Independence
- Monday, November 16for the anniversary of the Revolution (November 20) – Puente
- Friday December 25for Christmas – Bridge
Although these dates are mandatory rest dates, the LFT also contemplates that they can be worked in agreement with the employees and with additional compensation, which is equivalent to their ordinary salary plus a double salary, which is also called “triple payment” for the day of work.
The legislation also includes penalties for failing to comply with special compensation for providing services on a holiday. The fine ranges from 5,187 to 518,700 pesos for violating these provisions, and may be imposed by each affected worker.
In addition, the definition is pending regarding the date of the opening of the 2026 World Cupon Thursday June 11since local and federal authorities have mentioned at different times the possibility of this date becoming a day off this year.

In addition to holidays, there are several dates defined by the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) as suspension of classes. In some cases, such as some days of Easter, companies usually consider it a holiday, although it is not mandatory.
With the exception of Mother’s Day (May 10) and the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe and the bank employee’s day (December 12), which this year fall on a Saturday, These are some of the dates to consider in 2026:
- Return to classes (winter holidays) – Monday, January 12
