Caixa doubles real estate credit in January and raises forecast for 2022

Despite the high interest rates in recent months, real estate credit granted by Caixa Econômica Federal doubled in January, compared to the same month last year, said today (4) the president of the institution, Pedro Guimarães. According to Guimarães, the volume of financing concessions with own resources jumped from BRL 5.8 billion in January 2021 to BRL 11.6 billion last month.

“In January, we grew 100.7% in mortgage loans compared to January 2021. Compared to January 2018, our growth was 820%,” said Guimarães during the launch event of a special line of credit for truck drivers.

According to Guimarães, Caixa raised, from R$ 150 billion to R$ 155 billion, the estimate for granting real estate credit this year. A leader in the sector, Caixa concentrates around 70% of financing for the purchase of real estate in the country.

Regarding credit for agribusiness, Guimarães said that, at the current pace of evolution, the bank should become the leader in the segment in South America by 2024.

“We were the eighth bank in agro until last year; we are third now, and by June we will be in second place. If we make R$ 100 billion in agribusiness, it’s 15% of our real estate portfolio, it’s nothing”, he declared. According to the bank, the Caixa Tem application reached 109 million registered digital savings accounts. Regarding the credit line that anticipates the anniversary withdrawal of the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS), Caixa reported that, of the 2.3 million workers who contracted this type of loan, 1.3 million had a negative name. and used the anticipation to pay off debts.

During the event, the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, said that Caixa took a leading role in the execution of the government’s social policies, with the payment of emergency aid in 2020 and 2021. According to the minister, the government decided to centralize several social programs in the country. state bank.

“Since the emergency aid, Caixa has paid 68 million people. These were decisions we had to make in the heat of combat.
