Santo Domingo, DR. – The Center for Comprehensive Care for Disability (CAID) announced this Thursday the appointment of Dr. José Fernando Benoit Peña as its new national director, who had been serving as director of the Santiago headquarters since August 2020. He succeeds Henry Rosa Polanco in the position.
The institution also strengthened its management structure with the appointment of Dr. Claudia Cuevas Coelho as director of the Santiago headquarters, and Dr. Edison Iriarte Rodríguez Díaz as director of the Santo Domingo Oeste headquarters.
In making the announcement, Father Jorge William Hernandez, president of the Board of Directors, highlighted the “admirable efficiency” of Benoit Peña at the head of the Santiago headquarters. “His proactivity and commitment to CAID’s mission has earned him the respect of the user population and public opinion, which recognizes the professional, but also human, quality of the care offered,” he stated.

The new national director’s career is marked by solid training and a community focus. He is an orthopedic doctor who graduated from the PUCMM (2001) and his commitment was evident from the beginning, when he completed his law internship in the community of Diego de Ocampo Peak.
His specialization includes medical residency at the Cabral y Báez Hospital (2005), specialization in knee surgery and sports medicine at the Edgrand Rebagliati Martins Hospital in Lima, Peru (2009), postgraduate courses at the TH Chan School of Public Health at Harvard University.
Additionally, he is an active member of renowned international medical societies such as the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA).

Achievements and future vision
Under his leadership in Santiago, the New Model of Care and Services (N-MAS) was successfully implemented, an initiative that significantly expanded coverage through extended hours and group therapy on Saturdays, facilitating access for families.
Upon accepting the position, Benoit Peña said that he takes on this new challenge “with full awareness of the social impact of CAID. Giving our boys and girls with disabilities the possibility of developing their potential to the fullest is a challenge that we face with the decision to sustainably raise quality standards.”
With the new appointments, CAID reinforces its commitment to excellence and innovation in the care of children with conditions such as Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder and cerebral palsy.
