During an interview with journalist Leo Sarro on his X account, Caggiani expressed his concern about Delgado’s criticism of the Frente Amplio and warned that his words “are not appropriate” for a presidential candidate.
Delgado participated in a meeting organized by the Inter-American Council of Commerce and Production, where he met with Argentine businessmen and presented himself as the “candidate of continuity”, in reference to the current management of the National Party. In this context, he criticized the opposition, suggesting that a victory for the Frente Amplio could generate legal and political instability in the country.
Caggiani rejected these statements and maintained that “Uruguay does not end on October 28, rather it has to continue.” Furthermore, he highlighted that legal and political stability has been a constant in the country, regardless of the party that is in government. “The attraction of investments by the different governments, with different political signs, has been a country brand,” said the Frente Amplista senator.
During the interview, Caggiani insisted that Uruguayans abroad should not generate divisions, but rather strengthen each other. “Brothers be united, that is the first law, and if they fight among themselves, those outside will devour them,” the legislator quoted, underlining the need for unity before the international community.
The senator belonging to the Popular Participation Movement (MPP) also questioned Delgado’s ability to lead the country, arguing that “he is not up to par as a presidential candidate.” He recalled the controversy five years ago, when the Minister of Economy, Azucena Arbeleche, was criticized for having managed the conservation of the investment grade, suggesting that the then president, Luis Lacalle Pou, had “another positioning” on the international stage.
Caggiani assured that Delgado “blundered” with his statements in Buenos Aires, and regretted that the National Party candidate is playing with the future stability of the country. “Uruguay has always tried to build a process of stability and visibility, beyond the crises that existed,” he expressed. For the senator, it is not acceptable for a presidential candidate to suggest that the country could face instability if the Frente Amplio comes to power.
