The Commission of the Field Officer (CAFO) authorized this Friday the commission of the Yes to the repeal of the 135 of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC) to perform an act at the Centenario Stadium.
The Uruguayan Football Association had communicated this week that it had accepted the request for reconsideration carried out by the militants who promote the referendum to use the highest sports venue in the country.
Ricardo Lombardo, president of CAFO, told Channel 5 that the stadium will be leased for March 12. One of the conditions for its use is that only you can use the stalls and Olympic Tribune and that it did not affect the lawn.
15 days ago, when the Yes commission had made this request, CAFO denied it. “It seemed to us that generating events that could generate cracks in society was not good for the Centenario Stadium,” he told the Punto de Encuentro program on Universal radio. Days before, the AUF had declared prohibited the entry of any “political content” to the meeting between Uruguay and Venezuela for the Qualifiers for the World Cup in Qatar.
The denial generated criticism from some militants for the Yes, among them, mayors of the Broad Front and even the president of that political force, Fernando Pereira. “The field is arrowed,” he said.
This week, Gaston Tealdi, vice president of the Uruguayan Football Association (who together with the Municipality of Montevideo are the owners of the Centennial), told The Observer that they accepted the reconsideration and that “there was no problem“in which the act was done.
“CAFO is not going to act against the IM and the AUF. So, it was put to a vote and there were five votes in favor of it being done and one abstention,” he concluded.
