Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero met this Friday in Turkey with his Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, with whom he analyzed the state of the bilateral relationship and joint business and investment opportunities in satellites, nuclear medicine and mining, among other sectors.
Both ministers signed a protocol for cooperation in science and technology, so that research entities, universities, research institutes and industrial companies from Turkey and Argentina work together.
In a press conference after the meeting, Cafiero highlighted the work of both countries for the joint production of satellites and stressed that in Argentina “there are concrete opportunities for Turkish companies, among them, in the pharmaceutical sector, in the energy, conventional and green and also in mining”.
In 2022, bilateral trade between Argentina and Turkey exceeded US$1,180 million (+38% year-on-year), with exports of more than US$711 million and a favorable trade balance of more than US$240 million
It is worth remembering that in 2020 the company “GSATCOM Space Technologies” was created, made up of Argentina’s Invap and Turkish Aerospace, for the development of new generation geostationary communications satellites.
“Just as we work together for satellites, we can work together to develop plants that generate isotopes for medicinal use. Argentina is a pioneer country in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, with a history of more than 70 years in the matter, and has a great development of nuclear medicine in the fight against cancer,” said Cafiero.

However, there is great potential for growth, given the size of both economies and for this reason the Argentine Foreign Ministry will work on a roadmap to detect new commercial and investment opportunities that may materialize during the current year.
Cafiero also met with the Minister of Commerce, Mehmet Muş, to promote bilateral trade and Turkish investments in Argentina, within the framework of Turkey’s Council for Foreign Economic Relations (DEIK), which represents the country’s business community.
In fact, during the meeting it was agreed that a business mission from this country would visit Argentina next July.
Cafiero placed special emphasis on the fact that Argentina wants to be a reliable energy supplier, given the increase in oil and gas production in Vaca Muerta, but also due to the availability of biodiesel and the investments announced by YPF and Petronas to position Argentina as an LNG exporter.
The Foreign Minister also emphasized Argentina’s mining potential, particularly with respect to lithium, copper and rare earths.
Lastly, he held a working lunch with authorities from the Eczacıbaşı industrial holding, which brings together 46 companies from various sectors, for cooperation in mining, as well as the provision of radioisotopes and particularly radiopharmaceuticals.
