The scuffle began after former Minister Cárdenas commented, in a video, the most recent results of Colombian economic growth, in which coffee had an outstanding performance.

“Coffee is once again the engine of our economy this quarter and, as always, continues to proudly represent us in the world. Congratulations to the coffee growers for their great work! However, we call on the Petro Government: political uncertainty continues slowing down investment”Mauricio Cárdenas said in his message.

Two days after the publication of this video, President Petro reacted and asked former Minister Cárdenas to offer an apology to the country. “for the loss of Isagen.”

“Mauricio will have to say that it is the loss in the terms of trade of oil and coal compared to coffee, as we said in the campaign, and what he himself mocked, that makes agriculture and coffee the engine of the economy, just as we proposed”.

In his response, Petro added that Cárdenas “It is necessary to offer an apology to Colombian society for having privatized, together with Vargas Lleras, Isagén. The privatization of Isagén triggered speculation by hydro energy generators in the stock market and hit family income and the Colombian economy”.

However, the exchange of messages did not end there and Mauricio Cárdenas responded to the President, who “Coffee is an example of real growth, the result of years of effort, not of speeches. The same with Isagén: its sale allowed for works, highways and resistance to Covid. That is my legacy, what is yours?”.

It should be noted that the accumulated coffee production of the 12 months between November 2023 and October 2024 was 12,940 thousand 60 kg bags, added to the increase in the price of the grain in international markets, which has helped boost the economy. Colombian in recent months.
