Caesco will hold the Youth Journalism Award

The Center for Analysis and Study of Communication in the Dominican Republic (caesco) will produce the first edition of the Youth Journalism Awardwhich will award journalistic works that present the different social realities of young people in the country.

Miguel Otáñez, president of caescoexpressed that through this award they seek, that the works move those who can solve problems to action, but that they also communicate values ​​and promote positive paradigms for young people.

“The main objective of the award is to encourage the month of January to serve as a stage for journalism professionals to make the youth issue visible, approached from a critical and proactive approach,” Otáñez said, according to a press release.

Papers published between January 3 and 31, 2023 will be evaluated., They must be sent to [email protected] and will be received until February 3 of this year.. Additionally, the works that are proposed by the award juries will also be evaluated.

The journalistic pieces will be evaluated by experienced professionals from journalism and academia, headed by Persio Maldonado, president of the Dominican Newspaper Society; Adriano de la Cruz, past president of the Dominican Association of Journalists and rector of the EPPAC school of journalism, as well as Patricia Portela, rector of the CEF Santo Domingo university.

Those works that have been published in the aforementioned period in written and/or audiovisual format, that have been disseminated through any of the digital or traditional platforms, such as newspapers, blogs, television and radio, will be awarded.

The lines to be evaluated are: Youth and Democracy, Social Reality, and Young People Who Make the Future.

The winnersone per line, will receive a plaque of recognition, the sum of 40,000 pesos, an electronic multimedia device and a 25% discount for a master’s degree at CEF-Santo Domingo University.

The award is sponsored by the Santo Domingo Economic and Social Development Council (Codessd), the CEF-Santo Domingo University, the Association of Rural Savings and Credit Institutions (Airac), the International Junior Chamber (JCI) in the Dominican Republic, National Federation of Savings and Credit and Related Cooperatives, as well as the School of Social Communication of the Federico Henríquez y Carvajal University (UFHEC), among others.

Social reality: Rewards a journalistic work that presents a social problem that directly affects Dominican youth. Situation that has been a constant in the last decade.

Young people who make the future: Aimed at recognizing proactive journalistic work, which shows young people new paradigms to follow for their work, improvement and/or contributions to society in a general sense.

youth and democracy: This line seeks to motivate journalists to carry out work that shows the contributions of young people to democracy, from their political participation, the challenges and opportunities that the system has for and for young people.
