“By instructions of the Commander in Chief, Nicolás Maduro Morosthis promotion of cadets today, officers tomorrow, has assumed the eponym of the General Cipriano Castrothe first promotion with that name,” announced the sectoral vice president of Defense and Sovereignty, G/J Vladimir Padrino Lópezduring a ceremony, this Thursday, at the Bolivarian Military University of Venezuela (UMBV).
From the courtyard of the highest military university training house, in Caracas, Padrino López recalled that Cipriano Castro represents a history of resistance and anti-imperialist struggle, when he launched his phrase “the insolent plant of the foreigner has trampled the sacred soil of the country,” by ordering the response against the aggression of the European powers at the end of 1902, beginning of 1903, when they bombed La Guaira, Puerto Cabello and Zulia, among other Venezuelan coastal areas.
“And the firm, determined and determined position when they tried to cross the bar towards Maracaibo and received resistance from General Jorge Bello, who, after 1,600 projectiles launched by that large ship called PantherGeneral Bello said: ‘The Panther will not pass.’ And the Panther did not pass, the Panther was destroyed in legitimate defense of our territory in 1903 and in the face of that defense of dignity, those powers had to withdraw from Venezuelan territory,” the Minister of Defense also recalled during his brief speech to the graduating students.
“So you have taken on a glorious man from our history. Long live Cipriano Castro, and long live his men, boys and girls, who will represent him from now on in the Bolivarian National Armed Forces,” he instructed.
US threat increased military enrollment
On the other hand, Padrino López stated that the threat of the military deployment of the United States (US) in the Caribbean against the people of Venezuela provoked an immediate response that is reflected in a 53% increase in enrollment at the Bolivarian Military University.
“In the face of a certain, intimidating, vulgar, military threat against the people of Venezuela, look how, in this year 2025 (…) enrollment increased by 53 percent. Look at Venezuela’s brave and dignified response to the imperialist military aggression that seeks to intimidate, intimidate and silence us!”
He commented that this increase in enrollment is an expression of what the people feel in their hearts and the living desire to defend their homeland, their human legacy represented in their sons and daughters, to defend the glorious history of the liberators of America and preserve democracy, freedom and full independence of Venezuelans.
Finally, he commented that this institution comes to form the character, ideology and spirit of the Venezuelan cadets “with patriotism, to forge their love for the nation. We will see how this land gives birth to entire generations full of lights and joy, after so much sacrifice, to defend it.”
