CADE Executives 2022: "Education empowers and from it we see the important role of educational institutions"

During the second day of , experts shared their perspectives on “Business leadership in times of crisis”; In this session, Patricia Barrios, executive director of the He explained how democracy in institutions works when there is an involvement of all parties. Education empowers and from it we see the important role of all educational institutions.

At the beginning of his presentation, Barrios pointed out that one of the most important lessons he had learned during the health crisis was noticing the correlation that exists between trust, adaptability and growth. Organizations can react quickly because they build systems between intrapersonal trust in people. “We talk about trust because in the wake of the pandemic, it allowed us to see how families in different regions of the country struggled in difficult times with an optimistic long-term vision”he explained.

He added that, from the approach of how to advance from the government and continue with what has been achieved hand in hand with SUNEDU, the closeness of people allows and promotes innovation. For this, he indicated that “from education there is a lot to do from innovation. Education is a tool not only for social mobility but also for social cohesion, both universities and institutions have a key role in promoting safe spaces to channel and discuss ideas regarding the country’s problems with tolerance”.

With regard to innovation, in times of crisis, organizations are very likely to have a short-term mindset. However, history has shown that organizations that rush to cut their budgets have a very low chance of outperforming their competitors’ efforts. Therefore, it is necessary to know that innovation drives competitiveness and this drives to reduce important indicators such as poverty, in addition to providing access to quality education.

In conclusion, Barrios reiterated that we must continue to build from an optimistic vision towards challenges, instead of avoiding them, adopting habits and behaviors that bring us closer to that vision. In addition, by cultivating that mentality of curiosity and optimism, with unity, we will be able to face the crises that continue to occur with the right intention and thus get closer to that type of leadership that will help us solve problems collaboratively.
