The traditional Cacique de Ramos block was declared historical and cultural heritage, of an intangible nature, of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The recognition came through Law 10,562 of 2023, sanctioned by the state government and published this Thursday (07) in the Official Gazette.
The heritage title values the group’s importance to the state’s culture, encourages presentations by the group and the carrying out of its own activities. The text reinforces the prohibition of any manifestation of prejudice or discrimination, whether of a social, racial, cultural, political or administrative nature, against Cacique de Ramos and his members.
The Cacique de Ramos carnival group was founded on January 20, 1961 and became one of the main symbols of Rio’s festivities. Created in Ramos, a neighborhood in the north of the capital, it took to the streets of the Center and began to attract revelers from different areas of the city.
The Cacique has already promoted three consecutive days of parades in the center of the capital, like this year, when he attracted a crowd. From their meetings and samba circles, groups and names that became nationally known stood out, such as Fundo de Quintal, Xande de Pilares, Arlindo Cruz and Zeca Pagodinho.
