Cabrera, the last idyll of Espanyol with Uruguay

The center of Espanyol Leandro Cabrera has been summoned by the absolute selection of Uruguay and thus follows in the footsteps of other illustrious charrúas with a blue and white past such as Walter Pandiani, Cristhian Stuani or Iván Alonsoall of them forwards.

Cabrera30 years old, has received the call of the national team to measure himself, in qualifying matches for the Qatar World Cup, to Paraguay next January 27 and Venezuela on February 1. His last participation with the senior team was on July 27, 2010 and he faced angola.

Since then, the defender has been away from the national team, although he has worked to return. Cabrerain this last course with the Spanish, has played 24 games in all competitions, all of them as starters. His importance in the picture Vincent Moreno has been key. He is the boss of the parakeet behind.

Leandro Cabrera is one of the many Uruguayans who have achieved success and whose name has been engraved in the collective memory of the Spanish. The most recent are strikers: Walter ‘El Rifle’ Pandiani, Cristhian Stuani or Iván Alonso, remembered for their goals and dedication on the pitch.

Pandiani arrived at Spanish, from Birmingham, in the 2005-06 season and lifted a Copa del Rey. He played 25 games and scored three goals. It was in the following campaign, in 2006-07, that he especially shone, especially for his role in the UEFA Cup.

The Spanish reached the final, in part, thanks to the brilliant directorial success of ‘El Rifle’. Pandiani finished the tournament with eleven goals, thus becoming the top scorer of that edition. The attacker left the club for Osasuna, where he spent four years before returning to Barcelona in 2011-12.

Christian Stuani landed on the RCDE Stadium in 2012-13 and spent three seasons: he signed seven goals in the first two and fifteen in the last, 2014-15. It was precisely that performance that earned him the call of the Uruguayan team.

In the next campaign Stuani signed for him Middlesbrough of the Premier, with an irregular performance, and later ended up in the ranks of the Girona, where he currently plays and has established himself as one of his great offensive references. This season, in fact, he already has fifteen goals with the team from Girona.

Ivan Alonso closes the Uruguayan circle. His signing for the Spanish, in the winter market of the 2008-09 campaign, was highly questioned. He came from the Second Division and the team was in a critical situation, flirting with relegation. The addition of him, however, was essential to rescuing the team.

The attacker, beyond his five goals, spread an attitude to the locker room that was essential to seal the permanence in the First Division. The striker, with a decisive winning mentality for the group, spent two more seasons in the Blue and Whites, in which he scored six and two goals, respectively.

They were not so lucky in their passage through the Spanish Juan Albinwith performance hampered by injuries, or Adrian Moon. Albín arrived after five years of experience at Getafe and Luna had been named third best player in the South American U-20 behind Neymar and Iturbe. They arrived in 2011 and did not materialize.
