The Cabinet Council approved this Wednesday the contribution of $9,637,065 to the Western Tariff Fund to compensate the Empresa de Distribución Eléctrica Chiriquí SA (Edechi), for the electricity subsidy in the second half of 2021.
The decision made during the meeting led by President Laurentino Cortizo benefits 172,250 people living in Almirante, Guabito, Las Tablas, Changuinola and surrounding areas, reported the Presidency of the Republic.
This fund has the objective of stabilizing energy prices for Edechi customers, through the transfer of funds that are fully transferred to consumers.
A resolution project was also approved for the acquisition of one million 300 thousand liters of TYPE II Class C liquid medical oxygen for the Santo Tomás Hospital for a period of 22 months in order to meet the needs of the health system.
In the Cabinet Council, the presentation of accountability reports on acquisitions carried out through the special procedure for acquisitions of goods, services or works decreed in Cabinet Resolution 11 of March 13, 2020, which established the status of national emergency, by the Authority for Government Innovation (AIG) and the Institute of National Aqueducts and Sewers (Idaan).
Luis Oliva, administrator of the AIG, said that the investments during the state of emergency were destined for the Panama Solidario program (Vale Digital, the technological infrastructure); to the PanavaC program (logistical support, servers to the Ministry of Health and the Social Security Fund); to the Ester project of the Ministry of Education and to the Inadeh (virtual courses and services of call center for contact) and the cybersecurity platform (to protect the personal data of Panamanians).
He indicated that the sum assigned to this entity was $14,325,728, of which $13,805,676 were executed.
In the case of the Ester program, he pointed out that 353,759 students were registered and in virtual classrooms. He reported that the appointment system for the blood bank was also established, managing to issue safe-conducts to people who had appointments to donate blood.
Juan Antonio Ducruet, director of Idaan, gave a report on the acquisitions made through a special procedure for the acquisition of goods, services or works.
He stated that $20 million 272 thousand 830 were assigned to the entity, of which $13 million 523 thousand 192 were executed. The official assured that these funds were used to invest in services, repairs, materials and supplies; equipment, solidarity water distribution, among others.
