The Minister of Defense, Walter Astudillo, said during the session of the Council of Ministers that the cabinet agrees with the position expressed by the president, Dina Boluarteto start a debate on the relevance of applying the death penalty to child rapists.
Astudillo, who is in charge of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers because Minister Gustavo Adrianzén is on an official mission in Paris, made this statement after expressing, on behalf of the Executive Branch, his deep rejection and condemnation of the horrendous crime of a minor. 12 years old in the district of Villa María del Triunfo (VMT).
“In that line, as a ministerial cabinet we agree with the position of the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, of inviting the debate to analyze the relevance and need of applying the death penalty to minor rapists,” he expressed.
The Minister of Defense stressed that as a society we cannot tolerate misfortunes like the one that occurred with the minor in VMT. In this regard, he said that the necessary articulations must be made so that justice operators direct their actions to impose the maximum penalty on those who commit these crimes.
“On behalf of all of us who make up the ministerial cabinet, I express the deepest rejection and condemnation of the horrendous crime that victimized a minor in Villa María del Triunfo,” he indicated.
He stressed that it is the government’s policy to ensure the human rights of all people, as well as security and economic growth.
