For fair debts and against usury interests, it is the plebiscite promoted by Cabildo Abierto (CA) and for which it gathered some 320 thousand signatures of the 280 thousand necessary (10% of the current electoral roll).
Presidential candidate Guido Manini Ríos (CA) told TV Ciudad this Monday that it cannot be that there are Uruguayans who have to pay “up to 100% interest on debts,” when that percentage is “usury.” And he placed particular emphasis on the great debt that “exists on the part of the Uruguayan people.”
The signatures “for a fair debt and against usury” were presented this Monday in Parliament, in the coming days they will be delivered to the Electoral Court which will have the task of collating them and if they are the minimum sufficient (280 thousand) a plebiscite will be called possibly with the municipal elections of May 2025.
