The Minister of Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, pointed out as “murderers” those who promote the use of social networks so that boys and girls carry out the so-called viral challenges that put their lives at risk.
“In our schools and high schools, viral videos downloaded by TikTok have become fashionable, most of them where our boys and girls, the most precious thing we have, put their lives at risk for something wrongly called a challenge. “They are murderers who promote the use of social networks so that boys and girls take on this activity,” he emphasized this Tuesday. during a commemoration event for 23 years of Civil Protection.
He criticized those in charge of this platform for Latin America and asserted that “they would already be subject” if they allowed this type of content to be published in nations like China, for example.
“Then they do it for Latin America. They don’t hurt at all. “It does hurt us and it gives us a lot of sadness and a lot of pain that a boy or girl from Venezuela or from anywhere in the world has their life exposed just because of a viral TikTok video,” he said.
In that sense, Cabello ordered the State security agencies to be alert to this social problem and instructed them to regularly visit schools to talk with the educational community about it.
“This is a task that we have to face and a new threat against our people because they are also messing with our sons, our daughters (…) Let’s all address this problem. The security agencies, you fellow civil protection officers, firefighters,” he reiterated.
TikTok must withdraw viral challenges
The minister recalled that the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, ordered a review of the operation of TikTok within the country, because this social media is where children are downloading videos.
“72 hours he gave the president to TikTok. They can do it because they are doing it on purpose here in Venezuela. In China they don’t dare to put that, here they won’t dare either because they either take it away or we take it away from them. Never and will we never put the interests of a company like TikTok or any other company over the lives of our children,” stated the head of the Interior Relations portfolio.
