During a press conference held this December 16, Diosdado Cabello, first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, was asked about the releases that occurred over the weekend of people who were detained in the context of post-election protests. He said that non-governmental organizations had nothing to do with the process, but rather it was at the initiative of President Nicolás Maduro.
The first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, ruled out opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia arriving in the country to be sworn in. He asserted that “there is no possibility” that the leader will take office “January 10 or another day.”
«There is no possibility that Edmundo González Urrutia will set foot in Venezuela without being arrested. He is not brave. Remember that he broke into the Netherlands embassy. There is not even a possibility that this man will come to Venezuela to be sworn in,” said the also Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace this December 16.
Regarding the possibility of Edmundo González being sworn in in another country, he stressed that this act would be invalid because, he insisted, “Maduro won” on July 28, in the presidential elections.

According to the official leader, in the government “we do not believe in exclusions.” He commented that a review was carried out by the Executive so that the releases could occur. He stressed that “the opposition sectors do not want these people (the detainees) to leave because they (the opposition) want to remain in force and the way they do it is with scandals.”
He also mentioned the complaint about the arrest of a local worker from the Argentine Embassy in Caracas. Regarding this, he indicated that with the arrest of the citizen “a blow” was dealt to an alleged mission that had the objective of attacking the peace of the country.
«What was his (the detainee’s) task? They don’t say that. We will probably say it at some point. Everyone puts up a facade when they come to Venezuela. “It hurt them (the arrest),” he said.
Likewise, he rejected the statements of the Argentine Minister of Security in which she asked to work so that the detention was not a “reason for war.” In this regard, he called on the country to declare war “on the English who took the Malvinas Islands from them.”
For Cabello, in Venezuela there is justice. He recalled that Argentina decided to break relations with Venezuela, which makes it more complicated for the arrest to be addressed.
“Whoever comes to conspire must assume his responsibility,” he said.
On the other hand, he referred to the elections of justices of the peace that were held last Sunday, December 15. He stated that the event deepened the exercise of popular power. He recalled that 52,288 candidates for office were registered in the country. He pointed out that this Monday the proclamation of the candidates will take place in the communal circuits.
«The best way for the people to participate is as happened yesterday: With a massive presence, joy and a clarity of concept of what they want. “It is a people that understands its role, a different way of governing,” he added.
He emphasized that the strengthening of popular power “there is no way it can be reversed. These are the rights acquired by the people.
