Cabello reports arrest of a person for writing "welcome ships" from the US

Diosdado Cabello spoke of a “new version of the Christmas Tun Tun” to arrest opponents in Venezuela, in the context of the naval deployment that Donald Trump’s government maintains in the Caribbean

The Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, reported on the night of this Wednesday, October 8, the arrest of a person for having written on social networks “welcome the ‘gringo’ ships”, in reference to the ships deployed by the United States in the waters of the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela.

According to the official, the person, of whom he did not give details, was detained on Margarita Island, Nueva Esparta state, located in the southeast of the Caribbean.

“Today we caught one in Margarita, (…) he wrote ‘welcome the ‘gringo’ ships,” said Chavismo’s number two in his weekly program broadcast on the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

The minister assured that this action is part of a “new version of the Christmas Tun Tun”, alluding to an operation to persecute and detain opponents and critics of the Maduro administration.

Cabello expressed that those who “are asking for an invasion” are “miserable people who have no homeland,” while reiterating that “there are no bombs, only Matachavistas.”

“And if you don’t get one of those bombs dropped by the ‘gringos’ by mistake, we’re coming for you,” he warned.

Last Monday, Cabello said that there are no “bombs only Matachavistas,” after ensuring that a “small group” in the country wants a foreign invasion, without mentioning anyone specifically.

However, he then expressed that “those who, he said, are “still wishing there was an invasion will be left wanting,” because – he added – the country “will remain at peace.”

Nicolás Maduro assured this Wednesday that Venezuela is increasingly prepared to defend itself from the United States, whose government he accused of wanting “a war in the Caribbean and South America,” for which he expressed: “If the ‘gringos’ attack, we will respond.”

The United States maintains at least eight warships and a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine in the Caribbean, as well as more than 4,500 soldiers, under the argument of combating alleged drug trafficking from Venezuela, but Maduro, as he reiterated this Wednesday, insists that this is an attempt to promote a “regime change” and impose a “puppet government.”
