Cabello: I don't know why Capriles is a candidate for the primaries if he is disabled

Diosdado Cabello, first vice president of the PSUV, reiterated his questions about the primary elections that the opposition is holding. For the pro-government leader “the same ones who called for violence and abstention” are now calling for voting. He made reference to the “appointment” of Henrique Capriles as PJ’s standard-bearer in the process and recalled that the Comptroller’s Office disqualified them from popularly elected positions for 15 years.

The first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, questioned that Henrique Capriles is the candidate for the Primero Justicia (PJ) party for the opposition primaries. He recalled that the PJ leader was disqualified by the Comptroller General for 15 years.

“I don’t know what is going to happen there, what they think is going to happen. I don’t know why they appointed him if he is disabled. They should be prepared for any eventuality. Unless they already know that he is going to lose, “said the also deputy of the National Assembly (AN) of 2020 during his program with the mallet giving the night of March 1.

Cabello recalled that Capriles himself was notified in 2017 of his disqualification. According to the communication that the Comptroller sent to Capriles in 2017, it is a reprimand “for incurring in illegal cases classified” as “not presenting the local budget to the State Legislative Council, agreeing to international agreements without authorization to do so and signing contracts by the Government of Miranda with companies that do not comply with the rules”.

Cabello reiterated that “the same ones who called for violence” and abstention are now calling for participation, referring to the primary process that the opposition is carrying out to choose a unitary candidate to face the ruler Nicolás Maduro in the 2024 presidential elections.

“They are the same that when they have a chance to carry out a coup they try and take their photo in the Altamira distributor, that when there is guarimba they are silent and do not condemn the violence, and that when there are attempts at violence they are there for the photo. We saw it through Tachira, in ‘operation Gideon’. We saw them go through Altamira and not to complain, but to see what they got, believing that the regime was ending. I have news for you, the regime is not going to end, “he said.

The disqualification of Capriles prevents him from being registered with the National Electoral Council (CNE) to aspire to a popularly elected position. Regarding this, the president of PJ, María Beatriz Martínez, said she was convinced that the Government was going to have to rectify the disqualification.

He called to guarantee the political rights of all Venezuelans. «We tell Maduro that we are going there. Our party spoke out clearly and forcefully when he told him that it is not you who disqualifies us ». Despite asserting that the organization for political purposes will fight for the lifting of the disqualifications, he did not say if he has a plan in case it is not achieved.

PJ held an internal consultation on February 25 in which, according to Martínez, the organization expressed itself “clearly and forcefully” in favor of Capriles.
