The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Juan Cabandié, reaffirmed that the fires on the islands of the Paraná River delta “are intentional” and questioned that the Justice “does nothing” to identify and convict those responsible.
“There is an intention that has to do with the renovation of pastures and with the change of land use, with real estate or agricultural intentions. In this way they are committing a crime that is established in the Penal Code and that unfortunately the Justice does not act, ”Cabandié complained.
Speaking on Radio 10, the head of the environmental portfolio warned that “society has changed and in the last 20 years is more interested in environmental issues and demands more; the State also changed, it had to adapt to that and incorporate equipment and budget. The one that has not changed is Justice, which is still the same as it was 50 years ago and does nothing”.
this noon, Cabandie will be presented in the National Court of Victoria, Entre Ríos, to expand a complaint also made by his portfolio on July 15 in order to advance in the identification of the owners of the fields in which the fires are registered.
“I am going to ask the judge of Victoria to ask the province of Entre Ríos for the cadastre records, and for the province to give them to him, so that he can cross-check the geolocation information with the owners of those fields,” said the minister. , to later remark that he “would love to know” the names.
However, he recalled that there is an open legal case based on information that a deputy asked Senasa about an area of the Paraná Delta where several outbreaks were registered where it was specified that “the Baggio family, from the juices; the family Passaglia of the mayor of San Nicolás, relatives of the mayor of Victoria, Entre Ríos, and the former Minister of Economy Roque Fernández”.
“We put out (the fire) but the problem is that they relight it every three or four days”
the last part newspaper of the National Fire Management Service (SNMF), released this Monday morning, indicated that there were active sources of fires forests that included the provinces of Entre Ríos, Santa Fe and Buenos Aires, precisely in the areas of the Paraná delta.
The first studies presented by the Environmental Observatory of the National University of Rosario (UNR) stated that In the last few hours, 10,000 hectares were burned in the Paraná delta.
Cabandié maintained that “unfortunately they are outbreaks that appear at this time”, insisted that “they are intentional” and stressed that the Nation provides support with aerial means, equipment and brigade members to combat the outbreaks because “the provinces are the ones that have the power over the natural resources, as established by the National Constitution.
“We put out (the fire) but the problem is that they turn it on again every three or four days,” the minister complained and pointed out against the inaction of Justice.
In that sense, he remarked: “Exactly 2 years and 1 month and a half ago, I appeared before the Justice precisely to investigate who are those who commit this act; if they can implement the means to arrest in situ, at the very moment of the commission of the crime (those responsible)”.
Cabandié recognized that it is a “very complex objective because it is a very large and uninhabited extension of land”but warned that “there is a registry of who are the owners and the geolocation of the fires and with that information the judge can charge, start a case, convict the guilty and none of that happened.”
“The executive governments do not have police power, I cannot investigate who are setting the fire, nor do I have the competence to arrest who does it. It is justice that has to do it”he asserted.
