The president of the Confederation of Private Entrepreneurs of Bolivia (CEPB), Giovanni Ortuño, described as The first three measures adopted by the Government are “positive” to comply with the Agreements signed in the Economic and Productive Dialogue, and noted that they contribute to addressing the problems that currently harm the economy.
“These are concrete results of a public-private dialogue space, where We have been able to listen to each other and to prioritize the search for solutions to the difficulties faced by the sectors and citizens,” said the businessman in a press release issued by the CEPB.
Last Wednesday, August 28, the national Government approved two Supreme Decrees, one of them instructs the Release of tariffs for the import of medical supplies for drugs until December 31; and the other creates the One-stop shop to streamline foreign trade. The next day, Thursday 29th, a new Decree was approved that releases from the payment of the Tariff levy on agrochemicals and agricultural machinery. The promulgation of these regulations is part of the agreements signed with President Luis Arce on August 16.
In this regard, Ortuño pointed out that “the dialogue not only has to be inclusive and transparent but also productive and efficient, that is to say that materializes into concrete results. That is the basis of the Agreement that we signed on August 16 and that is beginning to take shape in the three measures announced this week, which show the interest, determination and efforts to gradually confront, but in a sustained and committed manner, the problems that affect us all,” the business leader noted.
He also explained that, since the signing of the 17 Point Agreement, The CEPB has held coordination meetings with the Minister of Economy and other Authorities “to speed up the procedures that allow progress in its implementation, not only because of the commitment made but also because of the urgency we have to address some critical issues.”
He also recalled that one of the agreements states that The Agricultural Cabinet will address the issue of biotechnology, which is currently underway, and progress has also been made in facilitating procedures and modifying procedures and regulations for the direct importation of fuels.
Regarding the problem of persistent dollar shortage, Ortuño said that businessmen hope that it can to deal with it in a comprehensive manner, with the implementation of all the agreed measures, and with a structural policy that must be taken by the National government in the shortest possible time.
“We are aware that, given the magnitude of the problems, we often expect quick, unique and definitive solutions. But great solutions are made up of multiple efforts and concretions that add up to the measures that from the Government must be taken to address the structural problems we face. “That is the path and we will continue to follow it,” he said.
