The National Policethrough the Department of Crimes and High-Tech Crimes (DICAT), is investigating several audios that circulated this week, through which alleged criminals threatened to stage a shootout in the San Felipe and Los Guaricanos neighborhoods of Villa Mellain Santo Domingo Norte, to avenge the death of three people during a dispute over land located in the Mata Los Indios community of the same municipality.
The information was provided by the Police spokesman, Colonel Diego Pesqueira, who affirms that they are behind those responsible for instilling terror in the neighborhood.
Although much of this week there were moments of tension in Los Guaricanos, the situation looks calm this Saturday.
Schools, shops and public transport have returned to normal operation, but residents in the area acknowledge that they feared possible reprisals against innocent people.
The merchant Carlos Ramírez, a merchant, stated that the situation was nothing more than a false alarm and that everything is calm in the populous sector.
This Saturday, members of the SWAT team of the National Police Early morning patrols in the area began. Also, dozens of agents do this job at night.
On his side, Bryan Escanio, a street vendor, said that due to the false alarm he saw his daily snacks decrease, as the population refrained from going out.
While the parents of the students of the Guaricanos Adentro Basic School decided not to send their children, although the teachers and administrative staff went to the center, last Thursday and Friday, as confirmed by Pablo Sosa, director of the school.
Both the Minister of the Interior and Police, Chu Vásquez, and Mayor Carlos Guzmán, have committed to advancing security in the area and by November 3 they have decided to implement the comprehensive My Safe Country plan in the municipality.
Meanwhile, patrols from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) have also been combing the place. Militarization has also been contributing to calm in the different communities of Santo Domingo Norte.
The anxiety of the criminals has reached the ears of President Luis Abinader, who has promoted meetings between the different state security agencies to confront the scourge.
