Business owners ask to accelerate the work in the historic center of Piura

Merchants and residents of Callao Street complained about the delay in the work on the . They indicated that this slowness has generated a series of economic losses due to the low influx of public in these businesses.

One of the merchants selling finished products explained that the intervention on this street began on November 4 and until yesterday, January 16, the situation was the same or worse, which has left regrettable economic losses for small business owners.

He said that, with these rains, the streets are full of floods, which prevents people from traveling through these streets. Likewise, he added that no authority has appeared in the area to do any follow-up and see the situation of the merchants whose sales have been zero since the work began.

“The streets have been intervened since November 4, it is January 16 and there is no progress. They broke roads and sidewalks and unfortunately we are in the same situation and worse due to the issue of the rains. It has affected us terribly in terms of business, influx. There are no people who want to come to the center, now it is no longer an attractive or safe place,” said Tania Laos.

Another businesswoman in the hotel industry said that she is on the verge of despair due to the absence of guests, since many prefer to stay in other areas and this is due to the poor condition of the streets in the historic center of the city.

“It hurts me financially, emotionally. I have to pay rent and the authorities are conspicuous by their absence. We have complained and they told us that they were going to support us, but it is a joke. They have left us machinery in front of the hotel where no car can pass to leave a guest. Look at the state, the holes, accumulations of sand,” said Rosario Burneo.
