Leaders of the business sector in Santiago issued their opinions on the possible effects in the Dominican Republic of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In conversation with reporters from Free JournalFernando Capellán, president of the Association for Development (Apedi), understands that it is too early to predict what the effects of the military operation will have on the country.
However, he indicated that a few hours after the conflict there are slight increases in the prices of imported products such as grains, corn, wheat and others.
Miguel Lama, president of the board of directors of the Santiago Free Zone Corporation (CZFS), considers that the Dominican Republic cannot feel oblivious to the confrontation between the two nations.
“The Ukraine issue is the real threat we have, not only in the Dominican Republic, but in the world,” considered the businessman.
He expressed his concern about the negative effects that the economy world.
Lama anticipates that President Luis Abinader will review this issue in his accountability speech next Sunday before the National Assembly.
Ricardo Fondeur, president of the Strategic Development Council of Santiago (CDES), said he hopes that the armed confrontation between Russia and Ukraine will not bring serious consequences.
