The city of São Paulo closed the basic fare for buses in the capital at R$5.00. The amount, which had a 13.6% increase, will be charged on January 6th.
The updated ticket price will be sent to the City Council, as established by law. In a note, the city hall recalled that all existing free services continue to be maintained, as well as passenger integration on up to four buses within a period of three hours.
The municipal management had already anticipated this Thursday (26), earlierthat the ticket price should be between R$5.00 and R$5.20. The definition occurred after a meeting of representatives from the city hall and São Paulo Transporte (SPTrans).
In a public conference that brought together members of the Municipal Traffic and Transport Council (CMTT), transmitted over the internet, during the morning, the superintendent of Revenue and Remuneration at SPTrans, Andréa Compri, stated that the increase is justified because the values currently practiced are equivalent to the 2019. He also highlighted, in his presentation, along with other records of the transport system, that the cost of maintaining it this year was approximately R$1 billion.
Among the arguments used by SPTrans to convince them of the need for the adjustment is the number of users benefiting from the free payment. From 2019 to 2024, paying passengers always represent at least half of the passengers. This year, it was 50%, while free passengers accounted for 28% and bus-to-bus transfers, without fare increases, accounted for 22%.
