Building under demolition: Operator would have acted without prior consultation according to those in charge

An old building located in downtown Asunción was demolished at night without any type of security measure, which is why the neighbors question whether or not the Municipality grants the permits for such action.

The old building is located between the streets Mcal. Esigarribia and Curupayty and their demolition caused a lot of havoc with the residents of the place since, according to data provided by the Municipal Police, precautionary measures were not taken since there was no type of signage.
Although the building has a sign that indicates that the infrastructure is owned by the Migone Sanatorium and details that there is a municipal resolution, it is strange that all the security procedures were not taken into account.

The chief of staff of the Municipality, Federico Mora, commented that the owners of the building did have a permit since November of last year to tear down the structure, however, seeing that they did not place perimeter fences, a call was made to the themselves to stop the demolition. “They have all the permits, our Urban Development and Inspection team arrived at the place and we already have an intervention certificate.”

“Indeed, the demolitions began without taking the corresponding precautions, but now everything is being organized so that they can finish the work as soon as possible, since the building has already been touched,” he mentioned.

Mora stressed that everything is in charge of the owners of the building and soon they will have to carry out the perimeter fences, but “it is true that they already had the permit since November 2021,” said the chief of staff.
Those in charge of the sanatorium involved mentioned that everything is already clarified, and the issue is handled by the construction company Gómez Abente. For their part, the aforementioned construction company provided details, and said that what happened at night was an act of irresponsibility by an operator, who acted without consulting. “We were making preparations for the demolition, we sent an operator to take the machine that was going to be used later, and it was done at night so as not to interfere with traffic,” said Miguel Abente, an engineer from the construction company.

He stressed that “unfortunately, when arriving at the place, the operator did not find the gate open and without consulting him, he decided to take the action of pulling down the wall to put his machine. When they notified us, we immediately stopped this procedure” he said. The engineer reported that they have already proceeded to clean the area and the fence will be placed as soon as possible: “The security measures have been taken, but this measure was taken without prior consultation, we are a reputable company, everything is in order and this situation It was out of our decision. There is no clandestine demolition, simply that the conditions in which things were done were atypical.

The video showed how a backhoe proceeded to demolish the walls of the building without a perimeter blockade or security fences having been established on the site.
