Two weeks ago, it was announced that the aforementioned addendum, signed in the administration of José Cevasco, gave the green light for lunch to go from being an à la carte dish to a buffet -with a diverse number of dishes- and that the its cost is also increased from S/15.9 to S/80.

But, that was not the only complaint. Last Sunday, the Panorama program published a report in which it revealed that Cevasco’s management had not only spent on expensive lunches but also on carpets and parking rentals for congressmen and their staff. And, also in the purchase of LED televisions.

This fact caused that, the following day, last Monday, Cevasco gave a press conference.

The administrative director also gave his defenses but defended the costly contracts, which allowed the disbursement of

S/315 thousand in carpets, S/180 thousand in LED televisions and S/1’620,000 in a parking lot contract.

During his presentation, Cevasco said that he was not going to resign from the position.

FISCAL INTERVENTION

The fact that would have motivated Cevasco’s resignation was that, yesterday morning, the anti-corruption prosecutor Viviana Robles carried out a raid at the administrative management office, where she went to collect documents from the latest contracts.

This raid also occurred amid the knowledge of a new complaint published yesterday by the newspaper El Comercio, which revealed that Congress signed a contract for S/312,000 for 68 tickets for congressmen. In the afternoon, after prosecutor Robles withdrew from Congress, Cevasco gave a press conference in which he said that he was resigning his post “for political reasons.”

At night, the president of Congress, José Williams, accepted Cevasco’s resignation and announced that the parliamentary general director, Javier Ángeles, was the new interim senior officer.

Williams assured that he hopes that, next Monday, the board of directors of Congress can officially appoint Javier Ángeles in that position.

The directors of logistics, human resources and supply also resigned, Williams said.

Although the Prosecutor’s Office has started the investigations, since last week, the Comptroller’s Office is also carrying out its inquiries and there may be surprises.
