The president of the Federation of Grocers of the Province of Buenos Aires (FABA), Fernando Savore, said on Tuesday that the sector is hopeful that food prices can be lowered, after the announcement made on Monday by the national government in this sense after a meeting he held with large companies and supermarket chains.
“If they make the decision to roll back prices, we are going to happily lower them, because with these abusive increases made by almost all companies, sales are slowing down,” said the grocer leader.
“It costs a lot for prices to drop, but we need to sell because we have a daily operating cost. Perhaps a large company can sit on top of the merchandise and speculate, but we need to lift the curtain and sell”, he stressed.
The merchant added that “SMEs are setting up in our businesses, which is an oxygen in the consumer’s pocket” and in this sense revealed that at the time they requested a meeting with President Alberto Fernández “because we want to connect SMEs with commerce of proximity”.
“If in each municipality a dry port were set up and each mayor took care of inserting SMEs, from my business I could buy from anyone,” he said in statements to Radio Provincia.
“Food SMEs are making top quality products and we have to help them get to our businesses,” Savore concluded.
