He Buena Vista Social Club returned to the scene in recent days in the city of Santiago de Chile, this time to pay tribute to his diva Omara Portuondo 30 years after the group that became a legend of traditional Cuban music.
The singer Idania Valdés, the timbalero Amadito Valdés, the lutenist Barbarito Torres and the double bassist Pedro Pablo Gutiérrez made up the list of members of the famous group who gathered for this emotional concert at the Caupolicán Theater in that city.
Omara attended the presentation and from the special guest seat enjoyed a show designed to “return all the affection and love that she has given us through music,” she told OnCuba Idania Valdes.

“Thank you to everyone who made my night yesterday at the Caupolicán theater something magical. I felt blessed surrounded by the wonderful Chilean public and all my colleagues,” the Buena Vista diva wrote on her networks.
His words were accompanied by a photo and a video of the moment in which he took over the scene to perform “20 years”, one of the best-known songs worldwide in his voice.
The Buena Vista musical roster was completed by young Cuban musicians.
Among them were Pedrito Sureda on the piano, Henry Ruiz on the timpani, Jorge Coayo on the percussion set, Carlos Frank on the trumpet, Heykel Fabian Trimiño on the trombone and the singers Pepitín “El sonero de Cuba” and Zaily “La Margarita”.

“I feel blessed to be part of this project for so many years and because the call of people when Buena Vista Social Club is mentioned continues to be something impressive,” said Idania, who along with other figures keeps alive a heritage that is the pride of Cuba.
The singer catalogs what she experienced at the Caupolicán Theater in Santiago de Chile as “a spectacular night” and the attendees who filled the room as a “euphoric audience,” especially with the presence of Omara, who a year ago announced her definitive retirement from the stage.
