Bucaramanga reinforces security in response to attack alerts with a lock plan and rewards

Authorities activate controls and million-dollar rewards to prevent possible attacks in Bucaramanga.

The Army and Police reinforced security in Bucaramanga after alerts of possible attacks. Patrols, 22 checkpoints and a special plan with rewards were activated to prevent attacks.

The authorities in Santander have intensified surveillance after receiving alerts of possible terrorist attacks in military bases and strategic sites of the department. With the aim of protecting citizens and guaranteeing security, the National Army and the National Policetogether with local authorities, They have launched a coordinated operation that includes patrols, controls and preventive measures in Bucaramanga and its surroundings.

The colonel Gerson Iván Molina Cortéscommander of the Fifth Brigade, indicated that after a Security Council with the mayor in charge of Bucaramanga, A padlock plan was implemented with 22 control points on the main access avenues to the cityin addition to coordinated patrols within the urban area and on the entrance and exit routes of the department.

The objective of these actions is to prevent possible attacks and guarantee the safety of citizens.

The mayor in charge, Javier Sarmientoconfirmed that the Ministry of Defense activated a special security plan, which includes rewards of up to 300 million pesos to capture those responsible and prevent attacks.

The first reward amounts to 200 million pesos for information that allows preventing any attack in Bucaramanga or other cities. while the second reward is 100 million for data that helps identify those responsible. The Government of Santander also offers 25 million pesos for information that contributes to preventing violent actions in the department.

Colonel Molina explained that these measures are complemented by a intelligence effort articulated with the Prosecutor’s Office and other specialized agencies, seeking to anticipate any event. In additionassured that the Army Training School in Vélez will support security during the weekends, increasing the force in the city.

Regarding the strategies that the colonel is taking, he assured: “Among the measures is a padlock plan on approach avenues and entrances to the cityas well as operations within the urban area to reduce levels of violence and possible threats of terrorism.”

The officer highlighted that the work to reinforce security seeks to anticipate any situation that could put the safety of the department at risk. “No event is ruled out in any way, but we are taking all the necessary measures to prevent and anticipate,” said Molina.
