After two years of pandemic that forced the suspension of the picturesque event, the cove of Bucalemuin the commune of Paredones, O’Higgins regionwill revive its traditional Giant Marine Pan to welcome the National Holidays 2022 next Saturday September, 17th. A coastal tradition that returns with everything, accompanied by the sale of local products such as wheat straw handicrafts, tastings and a stage with traditional music.
Diego Chavezpresident of Union of Independent Workers, Divers, Shellfishers, Fishermen and Algueros of Bucalemuspecified that this festivity celebrates its eighteenth version in the spa. “This year it will be held on September 17 to start the national holidays well, with artistic shows of different varieties such as folk, ranchera and popular music, gastronomic shows with local products, and of course the great protagonist that is the Giant Marina Paila”specified the leader.
Sandra Gomeza member of the union who has participated for several years in the organization of this event, pointed out that it had been suspended due to the pandemic, however it was still held virtually. “We are happy to do it again in person, because it has attracted a lot of tourism to our community, the premises fill up and everything is sold. This event has brought many visitors to the cove, which is very beautiful, and to Bucalemu”.
The organization was one of the 15 beneficiaries in the country with direct resources of nearly ten million pesos from the program to support the production of Fiestas Costumbristas, financed by Indespa – National Institute for Sustainable Development of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture of Small Scale-, to promote the reactivation of tourism and the productive activity of the coastal territories.
The traditional dish in XL version contains fresh products such as clams, mussels, limpets, piure and assorted shellfish, as well as seaweed such as cochayuyo and ulte, cooked by the union’s own fishermen and divers to be tasted by the attendees. The giant pot used for its preparation can contain about a thousand servings.
The event, organized by local fishermen, also has the support of the Municipality of Paredone and, as in previous versions, will have a covered food court with the corresponding sanitary measures and various stands of typical gastronomy and local products, all in front of a beautiful sea view.
Traditional Festivals of Artisanal Fishing
This program of Indespa contemplates resources for more than 230 million pesos to support the dissemination and logistics, gastronomy, education and decoration of various traditional activities in the coves until the summer of 2023, including dates in the coves of the Arica region, Coloso in the region Antofagasta, Totoralillo Norte in the Coquimbo region, Duao in Maule, Punta Astorga in Biobío, La Barra in La Araucanía, the Niebla coves and Isla del Rey in Los Ríos, as well as Rolecha, Tentelhue and Cucao, in the Los Ríos region. Lakes. At the southern end, the Puyuhuapi cove in Puerto Cisnes, Aysén region, will also join the celebration.
