The regime’s foreign minister participated in an official event in Caracas to honor Cubans and Venezuelans who died during Maduro’s capture.

MADRID, Spain.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, appeared publicly this Thursday in Venezuela to participate in an official act headed by the acting president Delcy Rodríguez, in tribute to the Cubans and Venezuelans who were part of the protection device of the dictator Nicolás Maduro and died during the US operation that culminated in his captured on January 3.

The presence of the Cuban Foreign Minister in Caracas had not been previously announced by the official channels in Havana. His participation was known from images broadcast by Venezuelan state television and Cuban and from a subsequent publication by the official himself on social network X.

The event was held at military facilities in the Venezuelan capital and included posthumous promotions and decorations to troops killed during the attacks, among whom, according to authorities from both countries, were 32 Cuban citizens. They belonged to the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, and were deployed in Venezuela as part of the bilateral cooperation between Havana and Caracas.

During the ceremony, Rodríguez gave a speech in which he linked the political project of both governments and spoke of the symbolic nature of the alliance between Havana and Caracas. In his speech he stated that “the Bolivarian and Chavista revolution, and the Cuban revolution will be an example for the liberation of the people of our America,” and described the deceased as victims of an “unequal combat.”

After the event, the Cuban Foreign Minister published a message in

Rodríguez’s appearance in Venezuela occurs in a context of high regional tension, marked by the arrest of former president Nicolás Maduro and the establishment of an interim government headed by Delcy Rodríguez, as well as by uncertainty about the future of the strategic alliance between Cuba and Venezuela, historically sustained on the political, military and energy levels.

Since the beginning of the close Cuba-Venezuela alliance in the early 2000s, the Cuban regime systematically denied having troops, intelligence agents, security personnel or military operations in Venezuelan territory. But the United States operation to capture Maduro and his wife, Representative Cilia Flores, overturned 20 years of denials.

This week the Trump administration informed Delcy Rodrigueza list of conditions so that the country can increase extraction and return to marketing its oil, including ending its ties with Cuba.

On the other hand, the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, detailed this Wednesday a three-phase plan for Venezuela, designed to be applied after the arrest of dictator Nicolás Maduro. The strategy, as he explained, seeks to avoid a scenario of institutional chaos and lay the foundations for a political transition in the country.
