The spotlights are on this Monday in the office of the money laundering prosecutor Luz Taquire, after the announcement she made on Saturday the former Secretary General of the Government Palace, Bruno Pacheco, of his intention to become a “collaborator of justice”. Pacheco did not give more details and, certainly, nothing is ruled out, as the specialists acknowledge.
However, if what is mentioned in the video is not finally expressed in a formal approach with the representative of the Public Ministry in order to be an effective collaborator, Pacheco will still have to sing today in that office about the serious acts he is accused of, but as investigated .
“What Pacheco clearly says in the video is that he wants to collaborate because he is afraid, because he and his relatives have received threats, which coincides with what Karelim López’s lawyer has said,” criminal lawyer Romy Chang told Perú21. , recalling the intimidation that the lobbyist received days before taking advantage of the collaboration and denouncing a network of corruption that reaches President Pedro Castillo. She even had to send her children abroad.
Chang also explained that although Pacheco’s video violated one of the fundamental elements of effective collaboration, such as secrecy, it would not invalidate it. “What could be happening is that he is being threatened and he knows that the only way to prevent something from happening to him or his loved ones is to make it public. Because if something happens to him tomorrow, we would all know who he is, ”he limited.
He stressed that the information that Pacheco wants to provide must be relevant and reach higher-level characters, otherwise the Prosecutor’s Office would not change his condition.
For his part, the lawyer Aníbal Quiroga stressed that to be a collaborator there must first be a qualification from the Prosecutor’s Office and, in addition, an acknowledgment of the crimes. “The effective collaborator begins by saying that he is responsible, that he is a criminal who deserves a penalty. Then they lower it or they exonerate him is something else, and he has to provide concrete means of proof, “he said.
Quiroga noted that Pacheco has not expressly said that he wants to be an “effective collaborator”, so he did not rule out that the video is a tool to “negotiate”.
