He pointed out that the social housing actions seek to allow families displaced by the phenomenon of gentrification to return to inhabit the colonies and neighborhoods of the capital.
“That we rebuild their lives and guarantee that housing takes root in areas where they have historically lived. Make sure that in places where there is expulsion of the population, for economic reasons, we can build accessible, affordable housing, appropriate to the needs,” he commented.
The president pointed out that to make the social housing project, housing for young people and rent-to-own apartments a reality, it is necessary to allocate greater resources annually, an effort that already began with the 2025 budget.
In this context, the Secretary of Administration and Finance, Juan Pablo de Botton, reported that by 2025 the government of Mexico City allocated 9,000 million pesos to the new Housing Secretariat, which represents an increase of almost 90% compared to the budget approved in 2024.
De Botton highlighted that the economic package for 2025 reflects the administration’s commitment to public policies that benefit the residents of the capital, prioritizing key areas such as housing, social programs, water supply, public safety and improvements in public transportation.
“We are talking about a budget that addresses the most important needs of the people. “It is a historic budget that foresees a significant increase in housing,” he noted.
The government of Mexico City announced that different social housing actions will be carried out in conjunction with civil society organizations, which it called “allies” of its administration.
