This Friday, in extraordinary session, the Congress of Mexico City approved reforms to the Mobility Law To establish licenses to electric vehicles whose speed exceeds 25 kilometers per hour. The capital president recognized the work of legislators of all banks.
Brugada pointed out that, once the law is published in the official and adequate gazette, the rules in the matter, the users of skates, motorcycles and electric bicycles must adhere to the Traffic regulationswhich will be updated soon.
“We thought that this reform was important, because it helps to guarantee in the city, order of who can and who cannot use some spaces for transportation. So, go ahead with this regulation,” he said.
For its part, the Secretary of Mobility, Héctor Ulises García NietoHe said that there are currently vehicles that have a weight greater than 35 kilograms and exceed 25 kilometers per hour, factors that in a transit incident against a pedestrian or cyclist can cause important injuries.
He clarified that what is approved this Friday is not for all scooters or electric motorcycles, since there are other vehicles for sale that if they comply with the rules established to be considered low risk.
“The (scooters and electric motorcycles) that exceed this speed, either by wattage or by power, or by dimensions, will have to be regulated,” he said.
The official acknowledged that in Mexico City there is an accelerated growth of vehicles that are not regulated and with this reform, all must have a license and adhere to the transit standards.
