Banco República (BROU), BBVA and Scanntech signed a memorandum of understanding to benefit retailers across the country.

With this signing “an important step is taken in the support that ‘Banco País’ gives to retailers throughout the national territory, with a solution aligned with our strategic objective of bringing the benefits of technology to the widest possible range of sectors”, declared the president of BROU, Salvador Ferrer. BROU has more than 50% of the banking business in Uruguay and is the main agent in the market.

For his part, the executive president of BBVA in Uruguay, Alberto Charro, pointed out that “the purpose is to make the opportunities of this new era available to everyone and, without a doubt, this agreement constitutes a milestone of great importance as it allows us to continue advancing in the digital transformation of a key sector of the economy, together with partners marked leadership in innovation and capillarity in the Uruguayan territory”.

“Innovation and bringing benefits to retailers is in our DNA and it is one of our main values, for that reason we joined BBVA and BROU, because we share the value of digital transformation and inclusion”, said Benny Szylkowski, Director of Scanntech.

Szylkowski recalled that Scanntech “was a pioneer in bringing technology to businesses in the interior of the country. When there was no technology for businesses in small towns in the interior, we went, trained the merchants, and allowed them to provide services to the population. Businesses in the most remote locations were able to access digital services through Scanntech”.

Through the agreement, both BBVA and BROU will provide benefits to Scanntech’s acquiring customer retail stores. Among the benefits, it stands outl Access to bank accounts and lines of credit with exceptional conditions and an exclusive service model through specialized executives, with remote or face-to-face management, at the merchant’s choice. In turn, BROU and BBVA retail customers will have access to Scanntech’s latest technology devices at promotional prices, as well as the benefits that acquiring Scanntech offers its customers.

Likewise, the signatories will offer promotions and other benefits associated with credit cards issued by BROU and BBVA.

Multiacquisition in Uruguay

The implementation of the multiacquisition process, proposed by the Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU) in its roadmap, has the objective of eliminating exclusivity between market acquirers and credit and debit card stamps.

For this purpose, users of Scanntech have the option of accessing the electronic collection devices, contracting the service to offer their customers the method of payment with Mastercard, Maestro cards, and soon with Visa, and have a computer platform that is updated in real time. In 2021, Scanntech took another step towards consolidating financial inclusion with the acquisition of the Mastercard seal.

The process continued in 2022 with the homologation process of the Visa stamp, which can be acquired when the acquisition of said stamp is opened on September 1 of this year. This initiative positions the company as one of the four authorized to manage the payments of those who operate with the international firm.

20% of transactions with electronic means of payment in Uruguay are operated in the Scanntech network.
