HAVANA, Cuba.- The brother of the political prisoner and prisoner of conscience Luis RoblesLester Fernández Elizástigui was transferred to the Valle Grande prison this Thursday, accused of an alleged crime of ‘attack’ against a police officer.
According to what her mother Yindra Elizástigui Jardines told CubaNeta change of precautionary measure was presented in favor of the 22-year-old, but the response to that procedure takes between 15 and 20 days; meanwhile, Lester He is already in provisional detention in Valle Grande.
“The approval of the change in the measure is the best thing for everyone. Just thinking that Lester could also be put in jail has me going crazy, with memory loss becoming more frequent every day due to stress,” Yindra shared.

His arrest took place on July 25 after an altercation that occurred five days earlier at a birthday party, with a police officer named Yusdel Posada Cutiño who, as Yindra previously reported, abused his power and hit his son after ordering the music to be turned off.
“He is very angry, you can see it when he talks to us because he is there unfairly, he was not the one who caused the problem, he was not the one who committed the indiscipline, it was the policeman, he committed the crime so Lester is the one who pays,” said Luis Robles’ mother.
He added that the officer is currently working and “living a normal life,” while his son “is starving and his freedom is limited.”
According to the woman, she sees her other son Luis Robles reflected in Lester Fernández Elizástigui, because despite the years that have passed, “he still feels that way, indignant and helpless.”
Two brothers in prison
“Lester’s situation has affected him because, apart from being his brother, he sees himself reflected in him, and he knows that it is one more suffering for the family and one more injustice. It is an abuse, a punishment and a repression from all sides,” he said.
This would not be Lester Fernández’s first arrest. In January 2023, Luis Robles’ brother was arrested and sent to the Valle Grande prison due to an alleged attempt to leave the country illegally.
The young man from Guantanamo had already been arrested in mid-December 2022 by the Border Guard Troops, when he was participating in the construction of a boat to try to leave the Island illegally. After paying a fine of 7,000 Cuban pesos and after more than 45 days locked up, he was released.
