Elements from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) and the National Guard (GN) participated in the operation. During the searches, firearms, doses of drugs, high-end vehicles, cash and communication equipment were seized.
It is presumed that the detainees are financial operators of the criminal cell headed by “El Chapito.” The operations in Jalisco were part of a series of actions that also included the arrest of other criminals in Sinaloa, where members of a criminal group were captured.
The authorities reported that the four detainees, including the two arrested in Jalisco, were placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Ministry, which will determine their legal status.
Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, “El Chapito”, is considered the top leader of “Los Chapitos”, the faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. Despite the operations against him, he remains a fugitive and is one of the most wanted fugitives by the DEA, which offers 10 million dollars for his capture.
Although the operations intensified, “El Chapito” remains free. His faction continues to operate internationally, while facing charges of fentanyl trafficking, money laundering and conspiracy.
