Broad support for the withdrawal of tax reform

Following the announcement of the immediate withdrawal of the Fiscal Modernization Project by President Luis Abinader, various political and business entities have supported his decision.

Since the reform was presented on October 7 and deposited the following day in the Chamber of Deputies, key sectors of society have expressed broad rejection of the proposal.

The president of the Lower House and legislator of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Alfredo Pacheco, thanked the president through his account on X for having responded to popular sentiment.

“President Luis Abinader has requested the immediate withdrawal of the Fiscal Modernization Law project from the agenda of the National Congress. Knowing that, in a democracy, everything can be achieved with dialogue. The people spoke and Luis listened. Thank you president!” , wrote the congressman.

The Minister of Youth, Carlos Valdez, highlighted on his social networks the president’s commitment to active listening: “President Luis Abinader demonstrates that the true majority is not only having Congress in your favor, but knowing how to use it by listening to the people and acting with coherence. Withdrawing the tax modernization proposal reflects your commitment to fair solutions for all,” he indicated.

In the hours following the president’s speech, other senior officials celebrated the measure, such as the Minister of Public Health, Víctor Atallah, and the director general of Customs, Eduardo -Yayo- Sanz Lovatón.

The president’s congratulations do not stop at the ruling party, since the opposition parties also recognize the government’s performance.

The Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party welcomed the decision of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, to withdraw the project of tax reform. This measure had also been requested by the former president and leader of the organization, Leonel Fernández.

In a statement issued tonight, the FP expressed: “We welcome the fact that the President of the Republic ordered the withdrawal of the tax reform submitted to the National Congress, which did not have the necessary consensus at the national level.

Productive sectors in favor of rectification

The National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep) also supported Abinader’s decision, highlighting its willingness to rectify and maintain dialogue. “We support the president’s balanced decision regarding the fiscal project. The ability to listen and put the willingness to rectify and continue the dialogue above the circumstances, inspire confidence and enhance his management as president,” published the president of Conep, Celso Juan Marranzini.

Along the same lines, the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) considered the government’s measure prudent. “At ANJE we consider President Luis Abinader’s decision to withdraw from the National Congress, in the current situation, the Fiscal Modernization Bill as prudent and sensible,” the entity said in a statement.

Likewise, the Dominican Association of Cinema Professionals (Adocine) positively valued the withdrawal of the tax reformwhich included the repeal of Film Law 108-10. Likewise, the Association of Non-Alcoholic Beverage Industries (Asibenas) highlighted the Government’s sensitivity when considering the impact that the reform would have on the most vulnerable sectors.
