Broad Front expelled mayor saltéo convicted of sexual abuse

Frente Amplio

The Broad Front decided this Thursday to expel from the party Roque Barla, a mayor Substitute of the Departmental Board of Salto who this Wednesday received a prison sentence for sexual abuse against an infant relative of his.

The announcement was made by the president of the leftist coalition, Fernando Pereira. “It is a terrible episode. No one can justify such an act. Justice acted and rules”.

“There is no place for him in the ranks of the Broad Front. The issue is being dealt with by the Plenary of Salto, which I understand will request the expulsion and then it will go to the Court of Political Conduct, and it will be ratified in the National Plenary. But it can be clearly said that he is expelled from the Broad Front and that we do not want him in it”, he added.

The sentence that Barla must serve corresponds to two years and eight months in prison for being the author of a crime of aggravated sexual abuse. The conviction was achieved through an abbreviated procedure in which the accused agreed with the prosecution accept the charges in exchange for a reduced sentence.

The authorities became aware of the fact from a complaint made by the victim’s mother. In the case it was found that Barla, almost 60 years old, abused the child when they were alone and it was the girl who told her mother.
